  Editor to GET_ME.PRG (July 24 93)

To get to the editor enter e or E
while you are in the title page
(menu) of the program GET_GEM.PRG.

The program should respond with a
new screen showing a floor
plan (may be blank) of a maze, and
a number of mouse sensitive buttons
at the bottom.

The Load button allows you to read
an existing maze from disk. The names
should end with a DAT extension.
The Save button allows you to save
an edited version of the maze onto
disk. The New button starts the
creation of a new maze. A maze is
limited to a maximum of 50,000 cells.
(You can change this limit with GFA
Basic if you wish.)

Maze cells are coloured in using the
mouse pointer and the left mouse button.
To select a cell pattern either click
on the Cell menu button on the bottom
of the screen, or else grab an
existing cell pattern on the displayed
maze using the right mouse button.

The editor can display only a small
portion of the maze. To shift to
another area, click on the Shift key
on the screen and wait for the maze
overview to be displayed. The white
box displayed on the overview indicates
which part of the maze is being edited.
You can shift this white box using the
mouse pointer and holding the left
button down. Indicate the top left
corner of the box. There is no response
if the computer is busy or if the white
box extends outside the maze. To
return to the editor, click the right
mouse button.

Clicking the menu button displays
a menu of cell patterns to be
displayed. The patterns on the left
are the wall patterns where the
sprite cannot go. The patterns on
the right include, floors with
special properties, robots, gems,
exits, teleports etc. Select your
desired cell pattern with the mouse
pointer and click either button. The
program automatically returns to the
main editor menu.

If you select teleport the program
will query you for both the start
position and destination. The
destination will be marked with a D
square but it will not appear on the
screen when running the game. When
selecting the destination, you may use
the shift button to change the displayed
portion of the maze.

You may have several exit cells in
your maze, but the program allows only
one explorer (your yellow sprite).

You may select the text squares two
ways. Either you type the desired
letter on the keyboard (don't forget
the shift key or shift lock), or
else you click on the square in the
Cell menu. The colour of the text
and its background may be changed
by clicking on those words in the
menu screen, but they apply to the
entire maze. Similarly, the once only
cell turns to the wall that you select.

Limits. You are allowed only 16
teleport cells in the maze and you
must have between 1 and 64 robots.
You should always have one exit.
You may place as many gems as you
wish.

The cells marked with yellow borders
and numbers are switches used for
turning lights on and off. Note
not may have been implemented in
the program. Similarly some of
the floor patterns do nothing too.

You may correct almost any cell by
writing over it with a new pattern.
Thus placing a wall on a robot or
teleport source will eliminate the
teleport or robot (not the teleport
destination). You cannot (or should
not) pick up or grab a teleport or
robot with the right mouse button.

The quit button returns you back
to the title menu of the program.

The editor does not have the greatest
user interface as it was designed to
be just sufficient for my use. You
need to have some familiarity with the
game to use it intelligently.

If you have developed any new
interesting levels, send them to mail
either by e-mail or diskette and
I may add them to the later versions
of this program.
