Using *INVASION* to Learn To Type
Prepared for MichTron by D.A. Brumleve

A series of files on your INVASION disk has been prepared to help
you practice touch-typing while learning the keyboard. These
files have the .VOC extension and are numbered FILE1, FILE2, etc.
They are intended to be used in numerical order. The first file,
FILE1.VOC, will help you become acquainted with a very important
group of keys, the "home" keys. These are the keys to which you
should return your fingers every time you type a letter. On the
left side of the middle row of your keyboard you will see four
keys: A, S, D, F. These are the home keys for your left hand. A
is controlled by your left little finger, S by the ring finger, D
by the middle finger, and F by the index. On the right side of
the middle row are the home keys for the right hand: J, K, L, and
semicolon (;). The J is controlled by your right index finger, K
by the middle finger, L by the third finger, and the semicolon (;)
by your little finger. Always return your fingers to these
positions after hitting a key.

Load INVASION.PRG and select the default options (Click "Ready" on
the main screen). When the file selector box appears, choose
FILE1.VOC. Then place your fingers on their home keys. A series
of letters will appear at the top of the screen. Beginning with
the leftmost letter, type all the letters in the series. Then
another group of letters will appear. It may be difficult at
first to remember which key is which, but with practice you will
learn to type the letters very quickly. When the "Easy" level
becomes so easy that you are able to type all the groups of
letters without any losses to your cities, move on to the next
file, FILE2.VOC. Repeat this process with each successive file.
By the time you reach FILE14.VOC, you should be acquainted with
every letter, number, and symbol on a typical typewriter keyboard.
Most of the files introduce new keys, several keys at a time.
Each time you "graduate" to a new FILE number, look below to find
out which keys will be introduced. (Each successive FILE number
may include letters from previous files.)

FILE1.VOC--A S D F J K L ;
FILE2.VOC--G H
FILE3.VOC--T Y U
FILE4.VOC--V B N
FILE5.VOC--E R I
FILE6.VOC--Q W O P
FILE7.VOC--Z X C M , .
FILE8.VOC--Space Bar Shift Key
FILE9.VOC--(review, common series)
FILE10.VOC--! : ' " / ?
FILE11.VOC--1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0
FILE12.VOC--@ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ - + =
FILE13.VOC--[ ] { } \ | ~ `
FILE14.VOC--(review)

Note that beginning with FILE8, there may be spaces between words
or letters tested. You will not be able to perceive the space
after you have "shot down" the letter which precedes it, so be
sure to press the Space Bar immediately after typing that letter.
The Space Bar is included in the testing because it is so very
important when typing.

Below, all the fingers and the keys each controls are listed for
your reference. Each time you "graduate" to a new FILE number,
check this list to see which fingers control the new keys.
