                            King Quest I

     We have seen the 2nd and the 3rd, but now, here comes King 
Quest I which finally arrived for the ST after a long wait.

     You are Sir Graham and your mission consists in retrieving 
the king's treasures. If you succeed, you will become the new 
king. Although the first King Quest is probably the easiest, the 
advice remains valid, save your game position often or you might 
regret it.

     When the game begins, you will be to the east of the castle. 
Go west and Open door to enter the castle. Follow the corridor to 
the north, then to the west straight towards the king. Bow to 
king and return to the departure point by leaving the castle and 
going east.

     Go north towards the garden and Pick a carrot. Then head 
west to the limits of the garden and then south towards the 
castle and west again. At this point you should be seing a 
boulder, Move rock and discover a dark hole. Look in hole and Get 
dagger.

     Go west and Swim in the lake heading west. When you get to 
the edge of the lake, go north, and then west to the pen's gate.

     Open gate and go inside the pen near the goat. Show carrot 
and the goat will begin following you from then on. Exit from the 
pen and head west for two screens. You'll then meet your fairy 
godmother who will protect you with a Magic Spell. Go north to 
the clover patch and Pick the four leaf clover.

     Head north for the wooden bridge and cross the bridge. A 
troll is there blocking your way and claiming your possessions. 
Step aside and the goat will take care of him by butting him over 
the railing. Once the goat's job is done, it just leaves.

     Go north and you meet a gnome. Talk to gnome. He mentions 
that he has something useful for you if you can guess his name. 
Carefully type IFNKOVHGROGHPRM. That's his name which is really 
Rumplestiltskin, jumbled between two opposite alphabets. He'll 
give you some magic beans. Get beans.

     Now, go east to the other wooden bridge. Cross the bridge 
and head east for the flower patch. Go east and cross the lake 
going east. Head east once more and you'll see a boulder with a 
hole in it. Look in hole and you can see a faint greenish glow.

     Go east twice towards the beach and Get pebbles. Go west and 
a dwarf will try to steal your belongings, but since you are 
protected by the Magic Spell, he can do no harm to you. Go west 
twice to the flower patch.

     Plant beans in the flower patch and a monstrous plant grows 
immediately. I advise you to save the game often at this point 
because you'll fall off many times! Climb beanstalk. Climb to the 
clouds and then go east to the trees.

     Now, go south, east and east again to the tree with a hole 
at the bottom. Look in hole and Get sling. Head west twice to the 
fruit tree and then to the north. Head for the center tree and 
then east. The giant is there, ready to make mincemeat out of 
you. Patiently hide behind the tree and wait for the giant to 
fall fast asleep.

     Get chest, and head west for 4 screens until you reach the 
beanstalk. (Save the game now!) Climb back down. At the bottom, 
head south for 4 screens and then east where you should see the 
well.

     Cut the rope (to obtain the bucket), step to the side of the 
well, Lower the rope and Climb down rope. When you get to the end 
of your rope (!), Jump in water and Dive under water. Go to the 
bottom and to the west, you will see a hole in the rock. Go into 
the hole.

     There's the dragon! Get closer to this strange animal and 
Throw water to dragon; he leaves. Look at mirror and Get mirror.

     Head west twice and south twice to the tree trunk. Look in 
stump, Get pouch and Look in pouch. Go east and Fill bucket. Jump 
in the lake and swim east. As soon as you get out of the lake, go 
east to the place where there is a hole and north to the bottom 
of the tree. Climb tree to the nest and Get egg. Get back down 
from there.

     Go north twice. Get walnut and Open walnut, inside which 
you'll find some gold. Go east and Get bowl. Go south and meet 
the Elf. Talk to Elf. He then gives you a magic ring.

     Head south twice, west twice, south and west again to the 
woodcutter's cabin. Head west to go in through the front door. Go 
into the house; the woodcutter and his wife are hungry, the poor 
folks. Look at bowl, Fill, and Give bowl to woodcutter. The 
woodcutter gives you his fiddle. Go get it but watch where you 
step.

     Walk out of the house and head south. Jump in the lake and 
swim south where you'll find the witch's house. Go to the front 
door. Open door. If she is absent, go to the bedroom or else, 
step out and then in again. In the bedroom, wait for her return 
(it could be a while!) and as soon as she is in front of the 
oven, Push witch in stove. In the bedroom, Get note, Read 
note, in the kitchen, Open cabinet, Get cheese, Close cabinet. 
Leave the house but before moving on, Eat house... (oh yeah!)

     Go east and then south and you'll meet your friend the 
condor that you may have seen earlier. Go to the lower right part 
of the screen and Jump. After many unsuccessful attempts, the 
condor grabs you in its claws and carries you in flight. (This 
part may seem arduous because the positioning of Sir Graham on 
the screen must be just right in order for him to be caught by 
the condor).

     As soon as the bird lets go of you, go west and Get 
mushroom. Go east and jump in the hole. At the bottom, go south 
to the end of the tunnel and then west. A hungry rat is blocking 
your way. Talk to rat, get closer to him (not too close), Give 
cheese to rat. Open door and inside the cavern, you'll meet a 

Leprechaun. Play fiddle and the dance begins. Go south and when 
the king leaves the room, Get sceptre, Get shield, head west and 
climb the stairs.

     You now see a small hole in the rock, Eat mushroom and head 
west in the hole. When you get out of the hole, you get back to 
your normal size. Now, go north twice and east three times, to 
the castle.

     Cross the drawbridge and Open door. Follow the hallway like 
at the beginning of the game to meet the king. Bow to king, the 
king gets up and congratulates you but deceases immediately while 
leaving you his kingdom. 

               You are now ready to meet King Quest II.
