F1= Moves truck forward. Can be seen as the accelerator pedal on the truck.
If truck is reversing, stops truck, before moving it forward.
F2= Moves truck backward. If truck is moving forward, then stops truck before
    moving it backwards.
F3= Turns truck left at the next junction, if the truck is moving, and is indi-

You can only turn into a junction while the name of street you are turning
into is still on the screen or before the name appears on screen.
If you miss a junction, just reverse (F2) and try again. If the truck is
stationary, then makes a 180degree turn of the truck.
F4= stops truck, whether moving backwards of forwards.
F5= Turns truck rigt at the next junction and function similarly as F3.
F6= Pauses game. Press F6 again to un-pause. If while game is paused (the pause

F7= Sets automatic drive. When you set "AUTO DRIVE" (auto drive light comes on
the truck dash to indicate this) your truck automatically drives itself by
following the vehicle whose number you selected with F10. You will then only

TRUCK control panel (under the world map). To clear auto drive, press F7
    again.
F8= Sets automatic fire. Selecting "AUTO FIRE" enables you to control only your
truck's direction while the truck's powerful computers control its cannon to
fire your ennemies at full blast (CANNON/TRUCK panel changes to TRUCK ti in-
dicate that you are now only able to control the truck). To clear auto fire
    press F8 again.
F9= Sets automatic tracking. Selecting "AUTO TRACK" also sets "AUTO DRIVE" and
enables you to track/follow the vehicle whose number appears in the F10 win-
dow on truck dash and CANNON/TRUCK panel changes to CANNON to indicate that
you can now only control the cannon to shoot your enemies. Press F9 again to
    cancel.

GAMEPLAY & SCENARIO

SUPERHIGHWAY (UK) is a full 3D virtual reality game (written in 100% assembly
language using HiSoft Devpac 2) set in the future when an imaginary highway
(make it an electronic or physical one, as you wish, because it's either!) has
to be policed by yourself in order to rid the super highway of violent elements
in the form of a group calling themselves the Garshans.
Theirs weapons include armoured machine-gun-carrying cars, missile-carrying
trucks, and attack-helicopters.
You are armed with a high powered automatic and manual mode cannon-carrying
truck with unlimited firepower. See the full explosive effects of your own fire
power!
The object of the game is to shoot at any vehicles on the highway which attacks
you (and they will all attack you on sight!). Each time you hit an enemy, the
amount of its 'stake' is added to your 'power' and substracted from its 'power',
if its power is greater than 0. If its equal to or less than 0, then nothing is
added to your power and the enemy's power is further reduced by 1.
The only way to get rid of the vehicle from the super highway is to shoot it
until its power is equal to or less than 0. The vehicle will then park on the
side of the road - in the case of the helicopter, it falls out of the sky and
out of the level. To complete a level, all vehicles have to be shot until all
their powers equal 0 or less simultenously. That is, all powers must be shown
red to complete a level. Be warned that even while vehicles have powers of 0
or less and parked on the side of the road, they can still attack you. In fact,
the powerless vehicles (except the helicopter) become even more dangerous while
they are parked on the side of the road because they raise their stake every 2
seconds!! Bear this in mind!
The game gets progressively difficult and faster on higher levels. There are 12
levels in all to complete with higher stakes and greater powers.
Remeber, the 'stake' is what you get added to power when you shoot an enemy, and
what the enemy takes off your poer if hits you.
For every hit you make, score is awarded as follows: score=score+(level*4)
Vehicles 1 and 2 are the missile-carrying enemy trucks. Vehicles 3 and 4 are the
armoured machine-gun-carrying enemy cars. Vehicle 5 is the attack enemy heli-
copter.
Vehicle 6 is the bonus car. It is not an enemy, and shooting it gives you no
power if bonus is not active. However if bonus is being awarded (this is indi-
cated by 'BONUS' flashing icon and the bonus sound) shooting the bonus car
awards you the figure that is currently under the bonus car icon and counting
down. That is, bonus is not automatically given to you unless you can shoot the
bonus car while bonus is active! When bonus has counted down to 0, shooting the
bonus car has no effect! Bonus is awarded at random.
When your power (on the dash board of your truck, which is counting down all the
time at a rate dependent on the level of the game) reaches 0 or less than zero
game is over. When your power drops down to 19 it starts flash as a warning.
World map is on the right of the display screen and shows the world and po-
sitions of all the vehicles that are currently active. It does not show vehicles
whose power is 0 or less. The larger red flashing dot shows your position in the
world. The other flashing dot is the position of the current tracked vehicle
whose number also shows in the F10 window. To change this vehicle press F10
during game play and to automatically track this vehicle press F9.
The names of the street appear on the screen as you approach them. The street on
your left is shown on the left, the one on your right is shown on the right, the
one straight ahead is shown in the middle of the screen. If you turn into a
junction, the name of that street replaces the name of the street in the middle
of the screen. You can only turn into a junction before or while the names of
the approching street are shown on the screen.
Your CP (Communications Panel) on the bottom right of the screen is where your
score/level/high-score is shown.

SUPERHIGHWAY (UK) is quite unusual for this type of game: in Superhighway (UK)
you can run straight, turn left or right, reverse, turn 180 degrees in the other
direction, then go forwards, backwards, left, right, etc. The only restriction
is that your truck must stay on the highway/road.
Driving is as in the UK, but you may have to drive your truck in the middle of
the road most of the time in order to avoid vehicles coming from behind you;
otherwise, drieve on the left hand side of the road.
The vehicles actually obey the rules of real life UK traffic. Stop at or near a
junction and see this in action!
You may enter your name in the high score table at the end of a game, but if you
do not respond to the game's prompt after a short time, it enters 'XXXX' for
your name, and after another prompt, (and no response) it goes into demo mode
(with an F10 prompt).

HINTS AND TIPS

a) When mouse does not seem to be responding to moving truck or cannon, check
that you are in truck or cannon mode!
b) When your power drops down below 19 and starts flashing, make sure you are
somewhere in the sight of the bonus car because there is the chance that if
bonus has not been awarded for a while, it will be as soon as your power drops
below 10.
c) The helicopter is the hardest to beat, so make sure to get rid of it while it
has not gained too much power.
d) If you are not sure how to play the game, watch it play itself in demo mode.
If the game is left on unattended, or the game is over and you do not respond to
the game's promts, it goes intro demo mode automatically.

THE SUPERHIGHWAY (UK) STORY

Date & time: THE FUTURE
Place: UK & EUROPE

A super highway has been built between the major cities of the UK and the rest
of Europe, both in the electronic and physicla sense. There is great concern
concerning the legal use of this highway (which one???) and you have been ap-
pointed as Chief of the Internet Police Patrol to ensure that regulations are
adhered to.
A group of individuals calling themselves the Garshans (the 'devils') have taken
it onto themselves to try and eliminate any Police Officer who try to patrol the
super highway.
Now the Garshans are a mean lot who drive around the super highway in armour
plated cars, missile-carrying trucks and helicopters and will use their weapons
on sight of a Policeman.
Your task is to eliminate these evil minded highway roving yobs who are a right
menace to everyone. Your weapon is a high powered cannon-carrying truck which
has both automatic and manual modes of attack with unlimited firepower.
