Trivial Pursuit on the Atari ST

Instructions:

1. Introduction

Load in the game by clicking on
TP.PRG from the desktop.

     The program currently only works
on a colour monitor.

     The computer version of Trivial
Pursuit can be great fun if played
with a group of friends.

If you have a midi keyboard
connected to your ST, then the music
questions will be through it. It is
configured to work with CASIO CZ
series synthesisors, using the preset
sounds.

2. Controls

The game can be played with a
mouse, joystick or keyboard.

In Joystick/Keyboard mode, use a
joystick in port 2 or the keyboard
can simulate a joystick using the
arrow keys for directions and space,
enter or return for fire.

Joystick mode functions as explained
in the instruction leaflet. Mouse
control is explained in the relevant
sections below.

     The mouse controls were designed
to be as familiar to GEM users as
possible, whilst retaining the style
of other versions of Trivial Pursuit.

3. Options

     To select options from the
menus, click the mouse while over the
required option. Some options bring
up further sub menus. To return to
the previous menu click on the 'Exit'
option.

a) Typing in names from the edit
names menu:
     Select the players colour by
clicking on the required line. Type
in a name with the keyboard. Click
on 'exit', when everyone's name has
been typed.

b) Changing the timer value:
Press the mouse button over the
'up' or 'down' boxes, to select the
required time limit and then click on
the Exit box.

c) Load questions:
This option allows you to play
the game with different questions.
If there was enough memory in your
computer then all the questions will
be in memory, otherwise the program
will fetch the questions from disc.
The program automatically advances
through the question blocks during
the game. If you always save the
game position after playing then
questions will not be duplicated in
different games.

d) Saving and loading game positions:
These options allow you to save
the current game position onto a disc
to be continued later, or to save
your option settings.
First select the drive that you
want to save onto, by clicking on the
drive option.
Save a position by selecting a
number between 0 and 9 using the up
and down boxes and clicking on the
Exit box.
Load a position by clicking on
whichever position you want to load.
The saved games are displayed in the
following format:
     1 01-02-87 12:32
The first number is the version
number as chosen when saving the
position. The second set of numbers
is the date and the last is the time.
The data and time may be useful if
you have several games saved.

e)Miscellaneous:
i) Quit: This exits from the program
back to the desktop.
ii) Question type: This allows you
to select which type of questions you
will be asked.
iii)Input device: Choose between
mouse and joystick.

4. The question screen

Observe the candle on the right

Mr. TP will ask you a question.

If it is a music question, then you
can listen to it again by pressing
the right hand mouse button, or
clicking on the replay music box at
the top of the screen.

When you think you know the answer,
say it out loud and then press the
left mouse button.

Mr. TP will tell you the correct
answer and ask if you got it right or
not.

Click on either the Yes or No box at
the top of the screen.

If you got it right then you go back
to the board screen to have another
turn, otherwise it is the next
player's go.
