CODER OF  CHRONICLE,  JOINED  TO AGGRESSION AND SO
AGGRESSION  CONTINUED  DEVELOPING  UTOPOS.  UTOPOS
HAS BEEN  UNDER DEVELOPMENT  SINCE SEPTEMBER 1992.

              TECHNICAL INFORMATION

UTOPOS RUNS IN AN ST LOW RESOLUTION. IF YOU HAVE A
MACHINE WITH 8 MHZ CLOCK SPEED, YOU HAVE UPPER AND
BOTTOM BORDERS REMOVED GIVING YOU  A RESOLUTION OF
320*285.  THE   SCREEN  IS   DIVIDED   INTO  THREE
INDEPENDENT  AREAS   WHICH  ALL   HAVE  THEIR  OWN
PALETTES.  THIS  GIVES   US  48   POSSIBLY  COLORS
ALTOGETHER. THE GAME  RUNS  ALWAYS  IN  ONE  FRAME
( THE  SCREEN  IS  UPDATED 50 TIMES IN A  SECOND )
SO  ALL   MOVEMENT  IS  VERY   SMOOTH.  THERE  ARE
8  CHANNELS   OF   25 KHZ  SAMPLED  SOUND  EFFECTS
COMPLETING THE ATMOSPHERE.   IF YOU HAVE A FALCON,
UTOPOS RUNS  IN  ST BUS EMULATION  MODE,  BUT WITH

JUST USE JOYSTICK'S FORWARD AND BACKWARD

CONFIGURE. THE LEFT AND RIGHT DIRECTIONS CHANGE
THE ITEM'S CONFIGURATION.

1) COMBAT

THE MAIN IDEA OF THE GAME  IS TO CONTROL YOUR SHIP
THROUGH THE CAVES AND  DESTROY YOUR OPPONENT. YOUR
SHIP CAN CARRY  DIFFERENT  WEAPONS,  SO BUILD YOUR
OWN TACTICTS TO  KILL  THE  OTHER  PLAYER. IF YOUR
SHIP GETS DAMAGE  DURING  THE  BATTLE,  IT  CAN BE
FIXED ON ONE OF  YOUR BASES.  AT THE  BASE YOU GET
YOUR SHIP AUTOMATICALLY REPAIRED AND  RE-EQUIPPED.
YOU CAN ALSO DEFENCE YOUR  BASE BY CONTROLLING AAG
(ANTI AIRCRAFT GUN).
 
AN  ALTERNATIVE  FEATURE  IS  RACING   INSTEAD  OF
COMBATING. THE COMPUTER COUNTS THE LAPS AND  GIVES
YOUR LAP TIME AFTER EVERY LAP.  YOU CAN SELECT THE
ROUTE BY  YOURSELF.  CLOCK STARTS WHEN YOU CUT THE
LINE  WHICH SAYS 'START'. YOU'LL THEN  HAVE TO FLY
ROUND  A FLAG WHICH IS SOMEWHERE IN TRACK.   AFTER
THAT RETURN TO START.  CLOCK STOPS  WHEN  YOU  CUT
THE START-LINE AGAIN. THERE ARE TWO  COUNTS  SHOWN
IN YOUR STATUS BAR. THE LEFT  ONE  IS THE  CURRENT
TIME AND THE RIGHT ONE IS  THE CURRENT RECORD. YOU
CAN  CLEAR  THE  RECORDS  BY   PRESSING  'b'  (FOR
PLAYER 1) AND 'c' (FOR PLAYER 2)

2) SEEK'N DESTROY

THIS IS  A ONE-PLAYER  MODE.  YOUR  MISSION  IS TO
DESTROY  ALL  ENEMIES IN  A TRACK.  THERE  ARE TWO
DIFFERENT TRACKS  AVAILABLE. EACH TRACK IS DIVIDED
INTO THREE SECTIONS.  AFTER DESTROYING ALL ENEMIES
AT ONE SECTION,  A DOOR OPENS AND LETS YOU TO NEXT
SECTION.  THIS  ONE-PLAYER  MODE   WAS  MADE   FOR
PRACTISING CONTROLLING  THE SHIP,  SO  IT  DOESN'T
LEAD   TO  ANYTHING,   NOTHING  HAPPENS  WHEN  YOU
COMPLETE THE LEVEL. (WELL YOU MIGHT FEEL HAPPY FOR
A WHILE, BUT  THAT'T ALL.)  BY THE WAY...  ENEMIES
DIE  EASIER  IF YOU  SHOOT THE  COLOURFUL AREA  IN
THEM. THE GREY AREA IS A SHIELD,  IT CAN TAKE MORE
SHOTS.

THE  GAME STARTS  FROM YOUR  OWN HOME  BASE NUMBER
ONE.  THERE ARE  TWO OF  THEM FOR  EACH PLAYER  IN
EVERY TRACK.  YOUR SHIP IS LANDED ON YOUR BASE AND
YOU CAN EITHER TAKE OFF  OR GET INTO  YOUR BASE BY
PULLING JOY DOWN. AT THE BASE YOU  CAN RECONFIGURE
YOUR SHIP'S  LOADINGS AND  CHANGE THE  ARMAMENT OF
YOUR  SHIP. YOU CAN  MOVE THE SELECTOR  UP'N'DOWN.
MOVING JOY LEFT'N'RIGHT CHANGES THE STATUS OF  THE
HIGHLIGHTED ITEM. THE FIRST  THREE ITEMS CONFIGURE
THE AMOUNT OF BULLETS,  BOMBS AND FUEL YOU WANT TO
CARRY IN YOUR  SHIP. THE MORE  STUFF  YOU LOAD  IN
YOUR  SHIP THE HEAVIER  IT BECOMES (NATURALLY) AND

THIS IS STANDARD MACHINE-GUN, WHICH FIRES STRAIGHT
AHEAD.


FB-GUN
------

FB MEANS 'FORWARD-BACKWARD',  EVERY  OTHER SHOT IS
FIRED FORWARDS, EVERY OTHER IS BACKWARDS.


V-GUN
-----

SHOTS ARE FIRED IN A V-FORMATION.


MIXER
-----

MIX OF DIFFERENT SHOOTING DIRECTIONS.


AFTERBURNER
-----------

THIS ONE IS NOT A GUN. I PLACE THE INSTRUCTION FOR
IT HERE BECAUSE IT IS  PLACED UNDER LABEL 'GUN' IN
BASE AND BECAUSE IT IS ACTIVATED WITH FIRE BUTTON.
AFTERBURNER GIVES 20  PERCENT  MORE  POWER TO YOUR
SHIP'S ENGINE. WHEN USING  AFTERBURNER YOU ARE NOT
ABLE TO USE  GUN  BECAUSE  AFTERBURNER IS REQUIRES
FIREBUTTON  FOR  CONTROLLING   IT...   WHEN  USING
AFTERBURNER YOUR SHIP EATS  GAS  TWICE  AS MUCH AS
USUALLY.


                     B) BOMBS
                     --------

THERE ARE NINE DIFFERENT  BOMBS  AVAILABLE IN THIS
VERSION.  THE CURRENT  BOMB CAN  BE DEFINED IN THE
BASE  BY PULLING  JOYSTICK LEFT  AND RIGHT  ON THE
NAME  OF BOMB.  BOMBS  CAN  BE  FIRED  BY  PULLING
JOYSTICK BACK  WHEN YOU'RE IN THE  AIR.  YOUR SHIP
CAN CARRY MAXIMUM OF 12 BOMBS AT ONCE. THE HEAVIER
THE  BOMB  IS,  MORE  DAMAGE IT  MAKES.  THE  MORE
ADVANCED THE BOMB IS, THE  LONGER  RELOADING  TIME
IT  REQUIRES. HERE'S  A  SHORT  DESCRIPTION OF ALL
AVAILABLE BOMBS.


NORMAL BUCHU
------------

BUCHU IS A  BOMB  WHICH  EXPLODES  EITHER  WHEN IS
CRASHES TO WALL OR  WHEN  IT'S TIME FUSE ACTIVATES
IT. THIS BOMB  IS  THE  SIMPLEST  AND THE LIGHTEST
BOMB AVAILABLE. IT ALSO  HAS  A SHORTEST RELOADING
TIME AFTER A FIRING.


MEDIUM BUCHU
------------

MEDIUM BUCHU IS  ALMOST  SIMILAR  TO NORMAL BUCHU.
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT IT HAS TWO EXPLOSIONS,
IT IS A LITTLE HEAVIER  AND  IT REQUIRES SOME MORE
TIME TO RELOAD.


LARGE BUCHU
-----------

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN  NORMAL,  MEDIUM AND LARGE
BUCHUES ARE THE AMOUNT OF EXPLOSIONS, THE MASS AND
THE LOADING TIME.  IN  THE  LARGE  BUCHU THERE ARE
THREE EXPLOSIONS AND SO  IT  IS THE HEAVIEST BUCHU
(AND THE HEAVIEST BOMB OF THE CURRENT ARSENAL) AND
IT ALSO REQUIRES RATHER LONG TIME TO RELOAD.


SEEKER
------

THIS ONE CONSISTS  OF  TWO  DIFFERENT BUCHUES. THE
FIRST  ONE  IS  A  STANDARD  BUCHU  WHICH  CARRIES
ANOTHER BUCHU. THE  FIRST  BUCHU  HAS  A TIME FUSE
WHICH ACTIVATES IT  IN  THE  AIR.  THE FIRST BUCHU
THEN EXPLODES AND  LAUNCHES  ANOTHER BUCHU TOWARDS
TO NEAREST PLAYER. SEEKER IS QUITE HEAVY AND NEEDS
SOME MORE TIME TO RELOAD THAN BUCHUES.


LEAP FROG
---------

LEAP FROG  IS A  BUCHU  WHICH  JUMPS AROUND LIKE A
FROGGY!  IT'S  QUITE  FUNNY  BUT  PERHAPS  NOT  AS
USEFUL.


HOMING MISSILE
--------------

HOMING MISSILE FLIES STRAIGHT  FOR  A WHILE. AFTER
IT HAS  BEEN  ACTIVATED  IT  SEARCHES  THE NEAREST
PLAYER. THE HOMING MISSILE IS  RATHER LIGHT AND SO
IT DOESN'T AFFECT AS  MUCH  DAMAGE  TO THE SHIP AS
OTHER BOMBS. THE RELOADING TIME IS VERY LONG. THIS
BOMB WAS PREVIOUSLY CALLED 'TRACKER'.

ROLLO
-----

ROLLO IS A BOMB THAT SHOOTS BULLETS ALL AROUND IT.
IT DOESN'T  AFFECT MUCH HARM WHEN IT EXPLODES, BUT
MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS TO  OPPONENT  WITH THE  BULLETS
FLYING ALL AROUND.

ROCKET
------

ROCKET IS QUITE SIMILAR TO NORMAL BUCHU,  THE ONLY
DIFFERENCE IS THAT ROCKET LEAVES A LINE OF BULLETS
BEHIND IT.

ROLLET
------

ROLLER'S  DESTRUCTION POWER  IS SOMEWHERE  BETWEEN
NORMAL AND MEDIUM BUCHUS. IT 'ROLLS' IN AIR DURING
IT'S TRAVEL.
